At MD Buildworks, we are a family-owned and operated general contractor proudly serving San Francisco. Founded by Matt — also a licensed Professional Civil Engineer — MD Buildworks blends technical expertise with a deep passion for craftsmanship.

Matt’s love for building began early. Inspired by his father, Dickson—who honed his remodeling skills alongside his brothers—Matt learned the fundamentals of construction by working beside him. Those years of hands-on experience, paired with his engineering background, shaped his appreciation for thoughtful design, quality workmanship, and doing things the right way.

Today, MD Buildworks offers clients the best of both worlds: the analytical precision of an engineer and the artistry and attention to detail of a contractor.

Our Process

Ready To Build Your Vision?

At MD Buildworks, we're not just about construction; we're about working with you to craft spaces that reflect your unique style and needs. From our initial meeting with you to the final nail, we're here to listen, guide, and bring your vision to life.

  • Kickstart your project journey by sharing your vision with us. Simply fill out our Client Project Questionnaire and we'll take the first step towards turning your dreams into reality.

  • We’ll follow up to schedule a Discovery Call to discuss your needs and ideas in more detail and provide a ballpark estimate. Afterward, we’ll arrange a Project Walkthrough to go over your project specifics.

  • We will come to your home and assess your space and lay the groundwork for our build strategy. We will take measurements, discuss the materials and finishes, schedule, and budget to get your project started. This Project Walkthrough comes with a $750 investment, which will be credited toward your project if you decide to move forward with us.

  • After presenting a detailed proposal, we confirm our collaboration with a formal agreement and deposit, ensuring a mutual commitment to realizing your vision.

  • If your remodel requires design services, our team of architects and engineers has you covered. Once the contract is signed, we’ll begin developing a permit-ready set of design drawings to ensure everything is in place for a smooth construction process.

  • During the Pre-Construction Phase, we’ll work closely with you to finalize all details before construction begins. This includes reviewing plans, confirming timelines, coordinating permits, and addressing any last-minute questions. Our goal is to ensure everything is in place and you feel completely confident before we break ground.

  • Our skilled team springs into action, working diligently on your project. Throughout the process, you'll receive regular updates and have opportunities to participate in project status meetings.

  • Upon completion, we'll walk through the finished project together, ensuring that every detail meets your expectations and our high standards of quality.

  • We take pride in our approach, including our cleanup process. For larger projects, we enlist the help of professional cleaners to leave your space immaculate.

  • Once we’re complete, we’ll collect the final balance, marking the successful completion of your project—and the beginning of the next chapter in your transformed space.
